Abstract

Over the last 30 years, the composer Ramon Ramos Villanueva (Alginet, Valencia, 1954-2012) was an extremely important and influential figure in Valencian music. He undertook his musical training in Düsseldorf (Germany) between 1972 and 1983, where he became practised in the new musical languages of contemporary Central Europe. In Spain, he was professor of composition at the Music Conservatories in Alicante and Valencia from 1990 to 2008. Although relatively scarce and unknown, the music he composed for bands is of great importance because it incorporated the new languages, techniques and aesthetics of contemporary music, representing a pioneering and stimulating aesthetic contribution to the Valencian repertoire for music bands in the 1990s. The present article, which is based on my latest research on the author, compiles, describes and analyses the music this recently deceased Valencian composer wrote for bands.
