Music in public military ceremonies in the province of Salamanca (1902-1931)
Keywords:

This article examines campaign Masses and pledges of allegiance to the flag as specific types of public ceremony conducted by the military and legislated for by the government during the reign of Alfonso XIII. These ceremonies were held to promote and popularise the national patriotic values advocated at the time by conservatives. Based on the Salamanca press of the period, a study is conducted of the music employed in the service of this goal between 1902 and 1931 in cities in the province of Salamanca with a military garrison. Accounts of the music given in descriptions of these acts are analysed and the works mentioned in the articles are identified, revealing that the music and soundscape were paid scant attention by reporters.
