Abstract

The present paper explores, from an analytical perspective, one of the most recent works of the Dutch composer Johan de Meij. In this approach, our goal is twofold: on one hand is the aim to present his new composition as an example of the evolution in the modern conception of wind orchestras and their repertoire. On the other hand is the endeavor to demonstrate its pedagogic contribution to the educational function of this musical ensemble. Firstly, this involved exami- ning the creative process to explore the composer’s aims. Secondly, we analyse the general structure of the piece and its principal musical elements. Finally, we propose a series of didactic implications which could be carried out by means of programing this composition in concerts.
