New Performers for a New Era. The inclusion of Female Performers at the Banda Sinfónica Municipal de Madrid (BSMM)
Keywords:

From its foundation in 1909 the Banda Sinfónica Municipal de Madrid (BSMM) has been an active agent of the cultural context of the capital. However, it has also been a sort of witness of the political and social changes that have taken place in Spain in the last 110 years. Settling in traditionally male contexts has been one of the most relevant events of the last century also happening at the BSMM. However, this issue remains still unaddressed by academics. Thus, the main aim of this article is to put together the testimonies of some of these first women who are still part of the BSMM. This is to reflect on the motivations of their scattered arrival to the band, their working conditions and the circumstances under which they became part of a historically male ensemble.
